Whether you’re going on a tactical operation or training at the range, you need a rifle case that will keep your firearm protected and ready to go. Rifle cases are designed to safely store and transport your firearms. They’re available as hard cases or soft cases and are chosen based on personal preference and need.
Hard Rifle Cases vs Soft Rifle Cases
The biggest difference in rifle cases is whether they are hard or soft cases. Hard rifle cases and soft rifle cases both have pros and cons.
Hard Rifle Cases
Hard rifle cases are often used for long-term storage or traveling long distances. They offer more protection than a soft case does, but they also are more expensive on average, and bulkier.
The outer shell is made from tough materials such as durable plastics or metals. The interior is lined with a high-density foam to keep the rifle secured. Many hard cases offer watertight seals, wheels for easier transportation, latches, padlock protectors and features more.
If you’re looking to protect your long gun from water intrusion, corrosion and impacts, the Pelican Long Case 1720 comes highly recommended. This Pelican case utilizes a three-piece foam set for maximum protection and features an automatic pressure equalization valve, a watertight O-ring seal, padlock protectors and more. This Pelican rifle case is also compliant with airline, commercial, US government, industrial and military standards.
The Plano Field Locker Mil-Spec Double Long-Gun Case is weatherproof and safely secures up to two precision long guns. This Plano rifle case features a pressure relief valve, high-density foam padding and reinforced padlocks. This gun case also includes easy-glide wheels for easy transportation.
Soft Rifle Cases
Soft rifle cases are lightweight and easy to transport. They offer less protection than a hard case does, but they are much easier to manage. On top of that, they’re also quieter than a hard case, making them ideal for stealth operations and hunts.
The exterior of the case is made from durable fabrics such as ballistic nylon or ripstop materials while the interior is lined with soft padding for extra protection. Many soft cases have MOLLE platforms for carrying additional gear such as ammo, scopes, tactical glasses, and other MOLLE compatible equipment.

This double rifle case includes a padded internal divider for carrying two rifles, a front compartment with full sided MOLLE webbing, muzzle and stock pockets.
