Ballistic Helmets for Military and Law Enforcement
Traditionally paired with a ballistic vest and other bullet resistant body armor pieces, the ballistic helmet was designed for the purpose of protecting military and law enforcement members from firearm discharge. The initial designs for ballistic helmets were reliant on Kevlar layers for protection, while modern ballistic helmets use composite materials to protect the wearer and are more lightweight than their predecessors. These updated models also offer more comfort-based features like moisture wicking and removable padding.
At Galls, we carry a wide selection of tactical ballistic helmets, from the traditional PASGT style, to the modern, high cut FAST-style composite designs. We also feature several body armor options to wear in conjunction with ballistic helmets, as well as tactical accessories to increase the user’s functionality.
Low Cut Ballistic Helmets
Introduced in the mid-1980s, the “traditional” ballistic helmet, the Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops (PASGT) helmet, is made with layers of Kevlar, or similar composite materials, to provide projectile resistance. This PASGT helmet style also features a lower cut towards the back of the helmet to provide protection for the user’s ears and neck. Because of the material used to make them bullet resistant, PASGT helmets are usually heavier than other high cut ballistic helmets. Still used by military branches today, the longevity of the PASGT low cut helmet is a testament to its effectiveness.
At Galls, we feature a variety of choices regarding low cut ballistic helmets, including Paraclete’s PASGT style helmet and their PTHIIIA tactical helmet. We also feature low cut helmets from such brands like Avon Protection Systems and Protech.
High Cut Ballistic Helmets
As the design of ballistic helmets progressed, the high cut style has become very popular with users. Made with carbon and other composite materials, over-the-ear, these combat helmets are lighter than the PASGT models. While the higher cut was initially introduced for maritime safety reasons—which also reduces the amount of protective coverage for the user—the lighter weight and ability to attach tactical accessories has increased the adoption of high cut ballistic and tactical helmets by military and police members.
At Galls, we offer top body armor choices, including our selection of high cut ballistic and tactical helmets. Our selection features models from Avon Protection Systems, United Shield International and more.
Ballistic Helmet Accessories
While in scenarios that require ballistic armor, it is important to have easy access to necessary tactical gear when it’s needed. Because of that, the ability to mount accessories on ballistic helmets is an important feature. Many ballistic helmets can have important gear like helmet flashlights, communication devices, and riot face shields mounted to them. These items provide an extra layer of protection and field effectiveness when the need arises.
