Joint Custody
I was working the evening shift when I was dispatched to an apartment complex on a disturbance report. When I arrived I spoke with a male subject outside of the complex. I recognized him as the same person I had seen standing on a street corner for several hours earlier in the day. The agitated subject told me that a man in the house next door had stolen his jambox. I had him step outside so that we could get this straightened out. The accused gentleman empathetically stated that the subject had given him the jambox, but he would get it right away and give it back. The subject then started asking the accused man about other stuff he had supposedly stolen. The accused kept asking the subject to tell the officer what else was stolen because he didn't know what he was referring to. After about two minutes of arguing, the subject blurted out, "I gave you $10 to get me two joints and you never brought them back! Where are my two joints?" After explaining to the subject that we were not going to be able to help him get the joints, but that the accused man would go get the jambox, the subject said forget it and walked away in disgust. I guess it's hard to please everyone.
