Tall, Dark, and Winsome
While working the graveyard shift on a southeastern Virginia police department, I was sent to a case to assist a husband who was trying to get into his own home. His estranged wife was not answering the telephone and had changed the door locks. He looked into the home and could see "someone" standing near the front living room window. The individual simply stood there. The husband tried several times to get the person to come to the door or talk to him, but with no success.
When I arrived, I walked up to the home and was amazed to see the individual was still standing by the front window just as the husband had reported. Then, when I lit the subject up with my flashlight…it turned out to be a life-size cutout of a NASCAR driver from a store beer display. This discovery certainly answered the question of why the husband hadn't received a response at the door. He was a tad embarrassed, but was able to laugh at the situation along with me. He then left to go spend the night elsewhere, leaving "the driver" to watch the house.
