Bike Patrol

Equipment Accessories

Its been said that accessories make all the difference in the world. When it comes to bike patrol units, that's absolutely true!

This typical bike rack is firmly anchored to bike frame as well as wheel axle

Bike racks are indispensable for carrying all the gear you need. Make certain the one you choose is lightweight yet sturdy. And firmly attached as needed, so it doesn't come flying off in the middle of a pursuit or slip off and damage other bike components.

Bike packs and saddlebags allow you to carry necessary gear and equipment

You'll want a trunk bag or bike pack to transport such necessities as a repair kit, clipboards, forms and other minutiae necessary to your job. Some departments prefer saddlebags that hang from a rack on each side of the back wheel. Others choose large packs that attach to the top of the rack behind the rider or smaller ones that adhere to the handlebars in front of the rider. Still others go with a combination of all three, depending on the quantity of gear and equipment individual departments require.

Bike packs should be made of lightweight, durable material that repels moisture. Some packs come with special linings that inhibit water seepage. All bike pack fabrics should be easy to clean requiring little or no maintenance.

Water bottles are essential to your health and well-being

Water bottles are essential. One of the greatest hazards patrol officers face is dehydration - no matter whether its summer or winter. Riding a bike sucks the moisture from your body and it must be replaced or you'll be in poor physical condition, unable to pursue and apprehend as needed. Go with an insulated bottle, if possible, to keep contents cool.

Make certain your light system is able to withstand the rigors of your tour

Lights are a must. Choose durable, rechargeable units. You don't want your light system shattering the first time your bike goes down hard, either accidentally or when you toss it aside to pursue a felon on foot.
