In this Galls University course, youll learn about fabrics and fibers
both natural and synthetic. You will come away with a greater understanding of the garments you wear, why you may like one fabric over another, why you may want to take into account climate and environment, and why one fabric might be better for work than home and vice versa.
Fabric and fibers have been around for thousands of years. Human beings have been covering up since time immemorial whether they were tanning animal hides and making clothing, or were spinning and weaving fiber into fabrics. Apparel has been used to accentuate, beautify and, most importantly, protect humans from the elements.
Uniforms in particular are loaded symbols. Your uniform, whether you are in law enforcement, firefighting or the emergency medical profession, lets people know your authority. Uniforms have been used for thousands of years to distinguish, separate, identify and, in some cases, help reinforce authority.
Galls University Fabric will define fabric and fiber, as well as examine the history of fiber, both natural and manufactured. We will go into detail about certain fabrics that you probably use on a daily basis. Cotton, polyester, poly blends
just to name a few.
