Not good

My PD issued me these boot. Bottom line, I hate them. My Danner's are 100x's more comfortable at the end of the day. I don't know why everyone thinks these are so comfortable. Would not recomend them.

Great boot!

THREE years I've had this boot. I'm only now buying a new pair because everyone at work is making fun of how ugly they look. The zipper has never broke. They're still as comfortable as ever. No loose strings, no nothing. If it weren't for the fact that I'm a lazy bum who hasn't polished my boots not once in three years and have taken them all over heck and creation, they'd still last me another three years or more.

OK boot! Won't last long

Loved these boots at first. They felt great and were easy to break in. However the zipper broke in less than a month of wear and the heel became unglued. Would not recommend for everday use.

Light and Sweat-Free

These are the lightest boots I have ever owned. I work as a medic and wear this boots over 52hours a week and have always had problems with athlete's feet but not since I bought these boots. The sole doesn't last long but I won't ever wear another boot!!!

Good Boot

I work as an EMT in Boston where walking is a must. These boots were comfortable once they were broken in. For the money these boots were great compared to more pricy versions. My only advice is don't lace the plastic tabs on the side. They hurt the sides of my feet. Once I skipped lacing the plastic tabs on the side theses boots were great. I have had mine for two years and they still look like new every time I polish them.

Great Boot!

I bought these boots a year and a half ago and they have held up great! I'm on my feet 9 and 10 hours a day! Zip on and off fast and have had no structure issues at all. Odering new pair very soon!

Starting my 3rd pair

After a few fires and camp outs they are looking real dirty but clean up. I have scuffed the toe a lot and still take a shine. No zipper busts or tears. Time for a 3rd pair and looking into the waterproof to upgrade.

Nothing Better

I have had my boots for over a year, They still look good, zippers function just fine, they are Comforatable. I work more than just 24/48, somtimes its 48/24 and I also wear these when I ride my Harley. My opinion they fit and wear great, I will Buy another pair if and when these ever wear out.

Great Boots

I have had these for 3 years and finally the zipper broke after 3 years of kicking them off to put my bunker gear on. They really hold up well for Fire/EMS.

OK boots for the money

These boots lasted me exactly 1 year before the leather on the rear heel began to rip and the sole came unglued. Over all comfort was excellent, about a 40 hour break-in period. I am in Corrections and these were a decent boot for the money.

Good Boot, I am on my second pair

Good boot for the money. Makes a great summer boot due to it not having alot of insulation. Feet will get cold in the winter. Zipper did break after about 1 1/2 years.

Very comfortable light weight boot

I work on my feet for long periods of time in and out of water, snow and ash. I have had several pair of boots none were as light as these after 16 hours my feet still feel great. Have had some stitching come lose and the tag on the zipper has broke.

Good boot but will last a short time.

Wonderful for everyday

I love these boots and I am about to purchase my second pair. I wear them everyday and work 10 hours a day. The only down fall is that I work foot patrol in the bar district and the sole wears out after about a year.

Well worth it!

I bought these boots almost a year ago for an internship with a full-time department - very comfortable and quick off the feet when you need them to be. I'm now on a voulunteer department, and they're still holding up to everything I go through. I'd recommend them especially for firefighters and EMS personnel who need a fast don, comfortable boot.

Great for the Price

I'm a very big guy, 6'6" about 315 lbs, and I've worn these boots almost daily since July last year they have held up exceptionally well for what they have been through. My only complaint is these boots don't polish as well as others which may be of some concern with some departments and officers.

4 years still goin strong

These boots have been with me through a two year academy, a summer of security at a theme park (foot patrol on hot asphalt), and now two years of working as a deputy in a jail. I have twelve hour shifts and I am on my feet the whole time. My feet have just recently started bothering me at the end of the day. I think it's time for new insoles. Except for a small amount of wear to the outer sole, these boots still look almost brand new. The toe has been scratched and scuffed many times, but it always buffs out. I just polish them about every 4 months.

With bottom laced snugly enough to stay on, the zipper doesn't open enough to slip my foot out. Must be unlaced - and the upper eyelets aren't speed lacers, very hard to thread laces through. Plus, if I'd known these were made in China, I wouldn't have paid for the bates name.

Great boot, wore my pair out in less than a year though

I am a Security Officer and spend 8-12 hours a day on foot patrol. These boots are extremely comfortable, light weight and are great for warm weather. Furthermore, the zipper is an excellent time saver.

Good Boot

For the price they are GREAT. They are very comfortable; however, they do not have a lot of cushion. They've lasted me a little over a year and I never take them off work 40 hours a week plus; and, wearing them casually. They look great and they are slim which I like. However, after a year they they finally ripped and the sole is falling apart. They are constructed well; but, not great. Will hold up but are very "soft".

Light weight with heavy duty uses!

These boots are fantastic! They are very light, and continue to stay warm even in the coldest weather! Good sole pattern, and the zippers help when removing while wearing rain gear etc.... They have virtually no break in period, and always look good after a long hard day!

First Impressions are Not everything!

At first I was impressed, these boots were light & comfortable. However within a year I found their water resistance, comfort & structural integrity had deteriorated dramatically. They are not bad, but I recommend for light duty only.

Good and Bad

These boots are only 1 year old and the heel of the rubber sole came loose. Other than that the boot was very comforable, but I can't afford to relace them every year.

Good boot for the $$$

I bought these boots for daily wear, on my motorcycle and at work. I've had them for a year now, and just had the first problem. Soles are starting to wear thin, and a seam has broken on the left achilles area. I ride to/from work, walk all day, and sometimes wear them around the house after I get home. Very comfortable. My daughter also has a pair. She wears them when she rides behind me on the bike, and at work. She is on her feet all day (chef's assistant) and loves them for their comfort and stability.

OK Boots

Great Boots

Light and Comfort are a beautiful combination!

I'm a Correctional Officer and have had these boots for about a year and a half now and they still don't need to be replaced. They are feather light, and COMFORTABLE! The only Flaw (minor) even though I don't use the shoe laces (Love the Zip up) they still somehow get cut up, break, and need to pe replaced.

Great so far

I am a Security Officer for the Federal Govt. I have been wearing these boots for a month now. So far, I find them great. After a few days of breaking in they are comfortable, extremely light, and give good support...even after 8 hrs. The zipper is extremely convenient. Great Boot For The Money

I am a Tactical Supervisor for a local Security company who has had these boots for about a year now. They offer great support, and the light weight is a big plus. The only problem I've encountered is that they have very little insulation in the winter, making extended foot patrolling slightly uncomfortable without good socks. Otherwise, I can't really find a problem with them. I'm getting ready to replace the ones I currently use with another pair!

Very Light

I am a Deputy Sheriff in New Mexico and I have found that these boots hold up very well to mesquites and cacti. These boots are very light and comfortable. The one complaint that I have about these boots is the plastic lace hole above the ankle. This plastic part puts pressure on the side of my foot which is very painful. To fix the problem I skipped the plastic lace hole and just laced the others.

Best Boots Ever!!!

I'm a Firefighter as well as a Security Guard for a local mall, I've had my bates for over a year now and they are the lightest boots I have ever had. Very Nice Boot

I purchased this boot of others reviews. I am a Military Police Officer and work 12 hr shifts. I work in a generally hot enviroment. I spend alot of time standing on a gate or walking around checking buildings for proper physical security. As well as these duties I patrol and make arrests and assist other emergency personnel in their operations. These boots are by far ideal for this type of enviroment. I have been in Law Enforcement for 3 yrs now and was a prior firefighter but have never owned a pair of boots like these. I will have to be honest and say that these are certianly the most comfortable and lightest pair of boots I have ever worn. However, I must agree with a previous entry that the only drawback I found was that the little plastice eyelet at the ankle does become troublesome after several hours on your feet. I would also recommend to anyone that stands alot in one location for long periods of time to purchase some gel inserts as well. But over all these are really worth the money. Highly recommended.

Uncomfortable after long time on feet

Great for airport employees!!!

I work for the Fed in an airport so I am constantly on my feet walking in and out of metal detectors all day. The boot is extreamly comfortable, provides great ankle support, and feels nicer on my feet than my sneakers or the Bates Ultralite dress shoes I had before these. Being that I am also a Vol. Firefighter the zipper comes in handy when there's a call. All in all it's a great feeling, breathing, and supporting piece of footwear.

Comfortable and Reliable

Comfortable and Easy to Break-in

I really enjoy these boots. After having these boots a few shifts, they were broke-in without any trouble. They do not offer a lot of arch support, but they work fantastic if you work a 24 on 48 off schedule. My thing is that if I need arch support then I can always buy inserts.

Awesome foot patrol boot

I'm a security officer and one of my primary sites is a parking garage. I've had a pair or Rockies for the last couple years and they've been a great boot with the exception of the concrete garages. These Bates however far surpassed any boot I've tried so far. At the end of the day my feet and ankles don't hurt like they used to. Great boot!

Great boots.

I am a security gaurd at my local mall and I find these boots work perfectly while on indoor patrol. The only problem that I have is that I can't drive my personal car with them, they're too stiff. But a perfect boot!!!!!

Zipper Problems

Very impressed with how light these boots are. Not good for being on feet for long periods of time. Was displeased the first time I had to exert any force to my feet, more than walking, and the zipper blew out from the bottom up. What a pain just to get the boot back off when that happens. I will be purchasing a different brand next time around.

Best Boot I ever bought!

All around good boot

I have had these boots since June 05. Fire, Rescue, Military, security, work and Boy Scouts. Water, Cold, Heat. I did use the gel insole for the first 3 months. Now I use the pillow insert and change it monthly. I have had no problems with this boot. I have worn every make and model in the last 15 years. I am here today to buy my second pair so I do not have to wear the same pair each day.

Best boots out there for the money

I have had these boot for about one year. Before these I had a pair of rocky paratrooper boots and before those I had another pair of more expensive bates. I am ready for a new pair and went shopping to see if there was anything better. Tried on a couple of $150 and $200 Bates and Rocky's. These boots were way more comfortable then anything else I tried on, and were available in wide sizes. I have worn my current pair so much the liner inside is torn up and the soles are flat with no tread on them. They are still quite comfortable. I will definitely buy another pair of these boots, because like I said they are the best you can get for the price!

Great Boots!

Wow, this is my first pair of Boots...I'm an EMT and Volunteer Firefighter, I must say as much running around I have to do, these boots definitely don't tire my feet out. They are light weight and most comfortable. After adding some inserts for extra support and cushion, I have found the grail. I recommend these boots, for any Police, Security or EMS service providers. You can't go wrong with the price, weight and durability of these finely crafted boots.

Great boot for EMS

I have purchased other boots in the past such as Magnum. These boots by far are the best I have ever bought. I've had them now for about 3 weeks and they are just great. They broke in in about 2 shifts. They are very light, its almost like your wearing a pair of you own houseshoes. I would recommend these boots for everyone.

This is my third pair in 2 years (due to scuffs and scratches only) and I work 4 jobs in Fire/EMS. I love the side zipper, good for the firehouse for quick removal. Just as good on the private ambulance and just fine in the classroom when I teach. Nice and light.

Good boot for the $$$

I work for Homeland Security at a major hub airport as a screener in New England area. I'm on my feet usually 14hrs doing regular shift and OT. I've had these boots since November'04 and like them alot. There are a few drawbacks though that I'm not pleased with. There is no arch support, the zipper broke January '05 and the heel came unglued around the same time. I realize you get what you pay for, and for the money, these boots are alright, although I will be buying a different brand soon.

Amazing Boot

3 months and blew a zipper!

When I first put them on it was like I had been wearing them for years. As an EMT, the zipper side is a plus when getting up in the wee hours of the AM for a call. However, 3 months later and I already blew out a zipper. ARG!!!!!

Worst boots ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't recommend these boots to anyone. I have had mine for 6 months and they cause blisters, and a lot of pain. I can't tie them tight enough for a good fit and they scuff up really easy.

Very comfortable!

Good Boots with one exception

The one complaint that I have about these boots is the plastic lace hole above the ankle. This plastic part puts pressure on the side of my foot which is very painful. Great all around duty boot that will stand the test.

The great thing first of all is how fast I got the boot, 3 work days from the time I ordered it, great job on GALLS' part. The boot themselves are aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable, I'm going to get myself another pair for on duty and use, the pair that I bought is used as a "Ranch" boot. They are just that comfortable and reliable. I've already been in several messes, such as oil slicks and wet roads, I haven't experienced one slip up yet. All around great boot.

My last pair of Bates lasted for three years. The zipper on this pair broke after two days of wear. The quality of the boots seems to have seriously declined and I would not recommend these boots to anyone.

Feel like your walking on a carpet

I wear these boots for up to 16 hour somedays and my feet feel great at the end of the day. Seriously feels like you walking on soft carpet.

Poor Zipper Quality

Boots are comfortable, but the zipper broke after only 6.5 months of use. When it comes to quality this is not an impressive boot.

Great Boots

I work in corrections and am on SORT, and these are some of the best boots I've owned. I've had them a year and a half and they're still as good as new. Extremely lightweight, great for running in, and the side zipper is useful when I get a callout.

Pleased with the comfort and light weight

I am on a concrete floor 12 hours a day, 6 and 7 days a week and find these boots to be very light and comfortable even in hot weather. They don't wear quite as well as the heavy leather boots but the trade off is more than worth it and I am ordering my second pair to replace the ones I bought about a year ago.

Best Boots I've Ever Owned

Aside from being very comfortable they are extremely easy to pull on and zip up. I lace up my boots about once a month. This will be my duty boot for life.

Best boots for the money!!

Great boots! I wear a size 13 and they fit perfectly. They don't feel like boots, they feel like tennis shoes. And the best part they are affordable. Good Job bates! Good Job!

Good boots. Comes off and goes on easy. But zipper broke in about 6 months and starting to fall apart. Good if you dont need to use them alot.

Awesome Boots

This is the best pair of boots I have owned. I work with the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Police and we are off and on our feet 13 plus hours a shift and I also use my boots for tac work off duty and they are like wearing sneakers. I have owned them for 8 months now and I dont think I'll ever go back to a regular boot.

Nice boot for the price.

I have had these boots for 3 years. Unfortunately I have gone through at least 1 pair each year. I like them because they are light and it makes foot pursuits a little easier. The soles do wear out fast if you are constantly wearing them, but I will buy again.

Its OK by me

These boots are very light. Not bad in price, look good and have great traction in the snow. The only thing that I could worry about these boots is the Zipper might break. I have had them for 3 months now. The zipper seems to not work at 100% already.

Great Boot

I have worn this boot now for approximately four years and they are still going strong. I work 12 hour days in a correctional environment and I am on my feet most of the day. These are the most comfortable boots that I have ever had and I will buy this boot again if this pair ever breaks down.

Great boot for the money! A+

I have owned two pair of these boots. I am on my feet 10 hrs a shift whether in the jail or transporting prisoners and they have always proved comfortable. Yeah the zipper pulls broke after a couple of years, but a couple of small key rings fixed that. All in all, a good value.

Great Boots, Perfect for what they are designed for.

Light, Waterproof (to a point) plenty of traction in all weather, warm in winter cool in summer. Just ordered my second pair, first lasted over a year of hard duty abuse. Only issue was the sole delaminated from the rest of the boot. Next year I will get anothe pair too.

Nice Looking. Light Weight. Not Comfortable.

I bought these boots because a co-worker recommended them. However, I am undecided.

PROS: Light, Looks great, good leather quality.

Cons: Long break-in period, seam above the heel wears out fast and cuts into your achilles tendon, they are sized way too big. I am a 13 in most all other boots, but I am a 11 in this one.

Not as good as they used to be, and they DO slip

What have they done? They slip on the slightest wet smooth ground, older ones didn't budge on anything and lasted longer, so bring back the old compound again please and make them slip resistant.
