I used this light in training fires and real structure fires. Light appears to refract around smoke particles lighting up room. Instead of a thick smoke I couldn't see through with the light on rooms appeared more like a light haze which allowed me to easily see all around. Deffinitely better than smoke piercing lights where you may only see a tiny section where the beam hits. I have staked my life on this lights for many years.
