The ASP Friction Loc batons have set the standard for impact weapons and are now available in compact sizes. The most compact series of batons on the market, the new design can easily be carried in a pocket, inside coat pocket or on a belt. Great for investigators, plain clothes, and off duty carry.
The 16" is much shorter than 21" if you never compared them, they are almost a palm's length apart. This compact design is also thinner on the grip. The clip is plastic (unlike shown in the thumbnail), I advise don't rely on it.
But the advantage is size and weight, it looks and weight like a 2xAA batteries flashlight, very easy to bring it with you in almost any clothing.
The downside is, you can not use add-on such as "glass breaker end cap" (#BA152), due to its different-than-standard-baton structure.
Overall it is a very good EDC beating stick. Nothing tactical thou.
Its a simple device. I would suggest a lil penetrating oil to keep it working well. You can remove the end and adjust the tension if needed. The clip is removable/adjustable. Good for concealment or smaller hands. Fits in a pocket easily. Check your state laws before purchasing such a device.
I liked the compactness and expandable feature of this baton, as well as the clip-on feature. However, when I tried to open it, it took several tries and some black stuff rubbed off on my hands when I tried to open and close it. It took over 20 tries to close it. I had a collapsible baton previously, which was lost in a cross-country move. I'm 5'0" tall, so need something compact and expandable/collapsible. The search continues as I will be returning this item.
The P 16 is THE perfect size for concealability and effective reach. Just got the baton today, and it fits nicely in my jeans pocket, or cargo shorts pocket. The adjustable clip keeps the P 16 accessible. Must try it!!!
